Respite Services

Pediatric respite care provides families with temporary, in-home support so caregivers can rest, attend to other responsibilities, or take time for themselves, while knowing their child is safe, supported, and cared for in a familiar environment.

At Cubhouse, respite care is child-centred, regulation-informed, and relationship-based. Our trained respite workers support children within their existing routines, preferences, and support plans, offering care that is respectful, predictable, and aligned with each family’s values.

Respite care is not therapy. Instead, it focuses on supervision, engagement, and daily living support—helping children feel secure while giving families the break they deserve.

How Cubhouse Respite Care Supports Families

Cubhouse respite services are designed to support children and families in ways that feel natural, respectful, and practical within everyday life.

Respite care may be helpful for families who:

  • Need short-term or recurring caregiving support

  • Have children with additional support needs

  • Are navigating busy schedules, work demands, or caregiver burnout

  • Would benefit from consistent, trained support in the home or community

What Respite Care Can Help With:

Respite services may include support with:

  • Following established daily routines (meals, play, bedtime)

  • Play-based engagement and child-led activities

  • Emotional regulation support

  • Assistance with daily living tasks (dressing, toileting, hygiene, feeding within established routines)

  • Community outings (walks, playgrounds, library visits, school pick-up when appropriate)

  • Supporting one child while caregivers attend to siblings or appointments

All respite support is provided within the child’s existing care plan and does not replace therapy services.

Important Note About Scope of Services

Respite care at Cubhouse does not include:

  • Occupational therapy, psychotherapy, speech therapy, or other clinical treatment

  • Feeding therapy or medical care

If therapy services are recommended, our team is happy to guide families toward appropriate clinical supports.
